The Music Ministry at the Cathedral is one that seeks to recognize and utilize the finest of traditional Catholic music along with selections of the best of contemporary religious composers.
The Saint Columba Cathedral Choir provides musical leadership to the congregation at the 4:00 PM Mass every Sunday afternoon. Members of the choir serve as cantors at the other weekend Masses. Choir members also provide musical leadership for special events during the year to include Christmas Midnight Mass, the Easter Triduum, and the Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday.
Yearly, the choir presents two concerts: Lessons and Carols on the evening of the first Sunday of Advent and a concert at the feast of St. Columba in early June. Persons interested in becoming choir members should contact Dr. Daniel Laginya to arrange an audition. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings during the months of September through early June.
Students in Religious Education at Saint Columba Cathedral are invited to join in a Children’s Chorus. The Children’s Chorus sings at 10:30 Mass during Advent, Lent, and at First Communion. The Children’s Chorus also sings at Lessons and Carols. Interested students should contact Sr. Martha or Barb Zorn.
