On Saturday, March 1, 2014, the Diocesan Office of Worship sponsored the Diocese of Youngstown 2014 Youth Choir Festival. The festival, open to young people in grades three through 12 at diocesan schools and from diocesan parishes, was be held at Saint Columba Cathedral and hall, 154 W. Wood Street in Youngstown.
Beginning at noon that day, students will gather for rehearsal in preparation for the 4:30 p.m. Vigil Mass at the Cathedral. Bishop Murry will be the celebrant and homilist. Dr. Daniel Laginya, AAGO, ChM, director of music at the Cathedral and staff member of the Dana School of Music at YSU, will be the choral director (pictured right). Mary Ann Bilas Bush, AAGO, will be the organist and pianist for the event. The festival choir assembled will sing at the 4:30 p.m. Mass and will also present a choral prelude for the liturgy beginning at 4:10 p.m. The festival repertoire includes classics such as Ave Maria and Panis Angelicus as well as music from contemporary composers including
